![]() And so the central questline – there is a main plot throughout the game and then a variety of side quests, or other things that you can or cannot do, can choose to do if you want to, involving other characters and their own stories – but the central questline has a pretty wide fork. The central character is a stand-in and you have decisions to make to decide what kind of character you’re going to be. So you can kind of decide if you’re the nice guy or if you’re a little rude or snippy, and sort of choose your own personality that way as you play. It gives you a variety of options that you can choose. Royce: Well, it’s… I guess you could say it’s kind of like playing the main character in a sci-fi TV show.Ĭourtney: Yeah, and you actually have options – like when you converse with people in this world, you’re not down one specific path. Royce: Gameplay sprawls across a few alien worlds, spaceships, super-structures, and it’s a mix of first-person shooting, melee, RPG-style stat advancement skill trees, rotating party members, branching dialogue options – that sort of game, if you’re familiar.Ĭourtney: For the people who aren’t familiar, what would that be in layman terms, in noob terms? You shoot things up. Royce: And you find yourself in the middle of a downtrodden world full of exploited workers, evil mega-corporations, comically bad adverts, and corporate messaging to employees that sometimes hits a little too close to home. Your character awakes after being cryogenically frozen for longer than you intended. Royce: So The Outer Worlds is a first-person RPG set in a futuristic hyper-capitalist society that takes place in a solar system outside of our own. But today, we are going to talk about a very, very prominent Asexual character in a video game, because all forms of media are very important, and we love to diversify our Ace rep, don’t we? So without further ado, Royce, why don’t you go ahead and give us an introduction into the game The Outer Worlds. Now, most of these episodes that we have done have been about TV shows, movies, the occasional book here and there, because those are just the sorts of mainstream media where we occasionally find Asexual representation, for better or for worse. And we are coming at you with another Asexual representation episode. My name is Courtney and I’m here with my spouse, Royce. This will allow players to swap weapons on the fly, instead of having to go to their inventories each time they wish to make a change.Courtney: Hello everyone and welcome back to The Ace Couple. Players can bring these up by using the Weapon wheel, which is something new, and works somewhat like Mass Effect. Players are able to use a variety of ranged and melee weapons, much like Fallout. However, these negative Perks usually come with bonuses as well, much like Mutations in Fallout. For example, being in the close proximity of one enemy type may make you have a reduction in Stats. Flaws will be "negative Perks" that apply a penalty to your character when certain criteria are met. In addition, The Outer Worlds will have some new things, such as Flaws. ![]() ![]() The game features many similar mechanics to Fallout, including a Stats system that is somewhat like SPECIAL, as well as a Perk system that grants passive bonuses. The game features a space-frontier theme, where players travel to the outskirts of civilization in Halcyon and become entangled in life-changing events that will change the course of history. The Outer Worlds Wiki is the Official Wiki and complete walkthrough and guide for RPG The Outer Worlds, a new IP by Obsidian Entertainment, the original creators of Fallout and Fallout: New Vegas.
